Bill Maffie

Prior to leaving the investment management business in 2018 - the majority of which was spent at Wellington Management, Adage Capital Management and PAR Capital -Bill Maffie spent his entire 25-year career as an analyst and portfolio manager specializing in the consumer sector.  For the first third of his  career he supported portfolios across various style disciplines until he began managing his own portfolios, having complete autonomy and oversight over the capital which his employers deployed in the consumer/retail sector.

Throughout his career he developed, maintained and refined detailed financial models which helped him better assess the risks and opportunities associated with a given investment, value a broad assortment of companies in multiple aspects of the consumer universe, and construct a concentrated portfolio of longer-term-focused positions. In addition, over his 25 years in the industry he hosted and/or participated in thousands of meetings with senior managers from some of the largest (and smallest) consumer companies in the world; met and interviewed corporate board members; attended countless conferences, corporate analysts’ days and trade shows, and traveled and conducted primary research on businesses in both the United States and abroad.  He was responsible for holdings in companies which ranged in enterprise value from the tens of millions to the hundreds of billions, often developing close relationships with senior management which provided him an invaluable education about the challenges faced by company managers and how the best management teams faced these challenges successfully.

Bill was born and raised in Quincy and, like Bryan, attended the Roxbury Latin School where he served as a Trustee until 2019.  He also served as a Trustee of the Dana Hall School until 2023 and is currently a board member of both Baycove Human Services and the fledgling Stowe Jazz Fest. In addition, Bill holds director positions for both SOS and Rooted Farmers.  Bill has a BA in English from Union College, is a CFA Charterholder and is recognized as a qualified Financial Expert under the SEC guidelines for public company directors.  In his free time he enjoys travel, fly fishing, snowboarding, hiking and most outdoor pursuits as well as cooking, and he currently lives in Newton with his wife Heather and their two daughters.
